Biochemistry Mesotrione: p-Hydroxyphenyl pyruvate dioxygenase inhibitor, which ultimately affects carotenoid biosynthesis. Selectivity in maize derives from differential metabolism (to the 4-hydroxy derivative) and also possibly from slower foliar uptake.
Usage: Mesotrione is a post emergence herbicide for corn fields, which can be absorbed by the stems and leaves of plants. Weeds die when their stems and leaves whiten, and it has the characteristics of fast action speed and wide weed killing spectrum.
